The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program (Music Development Program)
provides a recognized national standard of musical success through an effectively sequenced
course of study from beginner to advanced levels.
The Music Development Program inspires excellence through individual student assessments
and allows students to celebrate accomplishment and track their progress with others across the
country. It also supports teachers with high-quality and innovative resources.
Practical exam dates are offered 1) Nov-Dec, and 2) May-June, in which students are assessed in
practical areas of repertoire, sight-reading, ear training, and technique. Three theory exam dates are
offered each year (December, May and August), in which students are assessed in rudiments, harmony,
keyboard harmony, counterpoint, analysis, and history.
Detailed procedures and requirements are outlined in the Piano Syllabus and the Theory Syllabus,
both published by Frederick Harris Music Co., Ltd.
The piano and theory syllabi can also be found online at www.musicdevelopmentprogram.org
